Course Overview
You will gain a solid foundation in aerospace engineering such as aerodynamics, astronautics and propulsion along with a wider appreciation of the economic, legal and environmental issues associated with aircraft operations and aircraft performance. This course focuses on the design of aerospace structures and selection of materials, demonstrating how materials behave in service and the reasons why they sometimes fail. You will also take a practical short course in flight testing, where experiments are performed on board a Jetstream aircraft. Design exercises run throughout the course. In years three and four, you will demonstrate your acquired knowledge through individual and group projects. Previous students have designed a microlight aircraft and a moon orbiter. In your final year, you will have the option to specialise in your theme with modules including Aircraft Design and Manufacturing Materials.
