Course Overview

Throughout this highly engaging and demanding course you will receive education in the surgical and non-surgical treatment of medically compromised patients, with particular emphasis on contemporary practice, evidence-based principles and systems to ensure an optimal outcome for the patient and practitioner. In this programme you will learn to provide treatment to your own patients, from initial consultation and assessment to surgery and management of post-operative complications. You can also have the opportunity to develop sound judgement based on evidence and management of patient cases using a multidisciplinary approach from discussion with colleagues from other programmes. Your study optionsPart-timeThe part-time programme is suitable for busy clinicians opting to undertake further study while they work. If you choose to take this option, you will attend three teaching weeks in years one and two at BPP University UK locations that include seminars, interactive workshops and practical training on models, phantom heads and cadaveric specimens. In order to complete the advanced clinical practice module in year two, you will complete clinical requirements in your own practice, or in our clinical outreach centres, to develop key clinical competencies. And in year three, you will receive teaching in research methodology, and have the opportunity to undertake a clinically orientated research project guided by a qualified research supervisor. Full-time, with a UK clinical placementThis variant is suitable for dentists wishing to invest three full-time years of their early career into training in one of the six disciplines. In addition to the intensive teaching blocks and practical work mentioned above, you will attend seminars and workshops and a clinical placement in our regional outreach clinics over 30 weeks per year. You will gain vital professional experience by observing qualified clinicians performing advanced procedures in a clinical setting, and be able to apply the new skills you learn by practising, whilst supervised, on models and cadaveric specimens. And in year three, you will receive teaching in research methodology, and have the opportunity to undertake a clinically orientated research project guided by a qualified research supervisor. Full-time, with an international clinical placementThis pioneering variant offers the opportunity to study in the UK as outlined above, as well as undertake a clinical placement in a European country. As with our other full-time option you will benefit from the dedicated teaching blocks, 30 weeks training each year observing qualified clinicians and practising on models and cadaveric specimens. In addition to this, and one of the key features of this study option, is the chance to undertake an international placement. Here you will get the opportunity to perform clinical procedures under the supervision of academic clinicians. You will undergo intensive advanced training in order to develop and enhance your clinical competence and skills, and be exposed to a wide range of expertise, diverse techniques and approaches to dentistry practice thanks to BPP University-s multidisciplinary approach to dentistry training. And in year three, you will receive teaching in research methodology, and have the opportunity to undertake a clinically orientated research project guided by a qualified research supervisor.
