Course Overview
The department has a strong tradition of pre-veterinary student advising. Through directed research and directed reading courses, Stanford undergraduate students can experience veterinary mentoring, Graduate students at Stanford have the opportunity to complete their laboratory rotations through any of the Dpeartment's three basic science laboratories. In addition, Comparative Medicine faculty teach a graduate level course in Comparative Neuroanatomy. The Department also offers several training and professional development opportunities funded by NIH's Institutional Training Awards. The Summer T35 training program provides funds to support summer research experiences after the first or second year of veterinary school. The Department's PhD T32 training program funds graduate veterinarian's stipends for up to three years of research. In addition, the Department of Comparative Medicine offers an American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM) approved, three year residency programin laboratory animal medicine to graduate veterinarians and 4-6 week AVMA-registered externships to senior veterinary students who are interested in laboratory animal medicine.
