The Institute seeks to forge closer collaborations between faculty already at the University promoting interdisciplinary research in data science that advances both theory and application. The Institute has a mandate to attract new faculty, to educate interdisciplinary graduate students interested in problems related to big data and data-driven approaches, and to build strong and mutually beneficial relationships with industry partners. Equally important in this mission is supporting and encouraging entrepreneurial ventures emerging from the research. The MS in Data Science will offer students an in depth education experience to focus on data science as it pertains to their unique interests. Students will be interacting with diverse faculty members and students, given the opportunity to conduct research opportunities, included in a capstone project course, and available for industry interaction.
