In 1967, the state expanded the school and the Hochschule then became the University of Mannheim. Today the University of Mannheim is an average size German university with a notable scientific emphasis and wide spectrum of subjects in the disciplines of Economics, Business Administration and Sociology.
The Department of Economics constitutes, combined with the Department of Law, one of five schools at the university and is one of the largest economics departments in Germany.
