Technical University of Munich

Course Overview

One aim is to place the role of land tenure and land management in the broader context of good governance and sustainable development. Another objective of the Land Management and Land Tenure degree programme from Technical University of Munich is to provide students with a profound knowledge of the many aspects of land tenure and land management in the rural as well as in the urban context. All courses combine theory and practice. Students are trained in the application of practical methods and tools. Case studies, field trips and lectures given by experts with practical international experience complete the formation. The lecture units focus on: the political, social and economic dimension of land tenure and land management (land policy, land tenure systems and access to natural resources in industrialised countries, developing countries and countries in transition), the various fields of application, such as land administration, land readjustment and land conflict resolution, methods and tools for sustainable land management which include among others participatory planning approaches, cartography, GIS, remote sensing, as well as training in moderation, mediation and presentation. Masters theses focussing on practical issues in the students home countries are most welcome. The Masters Program lasts three semesters; two semesters of classes at Technische University Munchen and one semester consisting of field work and the preparation of a Masters thesis.
