Course Overview

They gain knowledge on the uses and management of information. In addition, they learn to understand the role information plays in organizations, help others by using technology and tools, and navigate library and information systems to facilitate access to information. Moreover, students will: Experience rewarding work in a fast-moving information environment. Meet interesting clients and colleagues. Enjoy life-long learning opportunities. Have rewarding career options and job mobility. The MLIS program is available in three modes: Online only, Face-to-face only, or, A blended mode of face-to-face core and online or face-to-face electives. Delivery Format - MLIS Master of Library and Information Studies, Online MLIS courses meet at scheduled times each week. Students attend live, real-time lectures, ask questions, chat with classmates and have discussions with instructors. They view and display presentations, and collaborate on projects and presentations with instructors and fellow students. Typically, online class times are from 6: 00 p. m. to 8: 45 p. m. central time. MLIS students who study online are admitted to a cohort that begins in the fall semester. All students are required to make one visit to the University of Alabama Tuscaloosa campus to attend the orientation session. Typically, orientation lasts three days and takes place in mid-August, prior to the beginning of the fall semester. Most MLIS students in the cohort enroll in two online courses each semester. The program can be completed in as few as six semesters. The MLIS program at The University of Alabama is accredited by The American Library Association and the Southern Association of Colleges.
