Course Overview

M.Sc. "Marine Geosciences" is an internationally oriented, state-of-the-art graduate program, which focuses on the latest developments in marine geosciences and technology, in particular in the areas marine coastal geology, past climates, biogeochemistry and paleoecology. This degree should provide students with the knowledge of fundamental terms of geological, biological, geochemical and physical processes in the ocean. One of objectives is to combine theoretical studies with applied research and hands-on experience. As a result of extensive marine sciences spectrum at the University of Kiel, the program offers an insight into modern research topics. The graduate will be able to create and critically assess scientific results and to plan, carry out and evaluate ship and laboratory projects independently. The program is being conducted in intense collaboration with the highly research oriented Leibniz Institute of Marine Sciences, IFM-GEOMAR. It is precisely this collaboration which facilitates interdisciplinary and sound professional education and serves to provide the students with qualifications to work successfully in companies, universities or in other public institutions both in Germany and abroad. Since marine research is a very international field, this program is designed as an international study program and all course are offered in English.
