Mechanical engineering is one of the broadest of the engineering disciplines. Mechanical engineers are involved in research and development, design, manufacturing, and technical sales of a variety of products. Degree programs offered include the Master of Science (M.S.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph. D.). Mission, The mission of the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering is to provide high-quality engineering education at the Bachelor's, Master's and PhD levels, appropriate to the discipline and consistent with our status as first-rate research university. Goals, To educate students at all levels to apply concepts and principles of mathematics, science and engineering to solve important technological and scientific problems, as they practice engineering with technical skill, professionalism and societal awareness, To perform and disseminate disciplinary and interdisciplinary research that advances applied science and technology while preparing future researchers for industrial, academic and government positions, To continuously advance our educational and research reputation in the eyes of prospective students, employers, government bodies and other institutions of higher learning, in the United States and abroad
