You feel an urgency to make a difference in the world.
You have real-world professional experience and know what works (and what doesn’t). You already have a master’s degree in economics, public policy or management. You feel like you’ve found your calling.
Now what you need are the specialized skills, informed perspectives and nuanced understanding to be an even more effective leader in solving public problems. The two-year Master in Public Administration (MPA) from Harvard Kennedy School is that vital next step.
The MPA curriculum is flexible. You create a study plan that reflects your academic interests, focuses on your personal and professional aspirations and integrates across disciplines.
You may also decide to pursue a concurrent degree in business, law, medicine or other professional fields. A number of our MPA students do. The result? You’ll earn two degrees in less time and acquire even more skills you can use to make a difference in the world.
We’ve designed the Master in Public Administration (MPA) curriculum to be flexible, allowing you to create a 64-credit study plan that integrates across disciplines and reflects your academic interests as well as your personal and professional aspirations.
As an MPA student, you'll complement your study plan by taking two required electives in a Policy Area of Concentration as well as four credits in each of these key areas:
You are encouraged to take classes across academic disciplines at Harvard Kennedy School and cross-register into courses at other Harvard graduate schools as well as at MIT Sloan School of Management and The Fletcher School at Tufts University. See a complete list of the courses offered at HKS.
Concurrent Degrees
You also have the option to pursue a second degree concurrently in either business, law, medicine or another professional field either at Harvard or at a partner institution.
By pursuing a concurrent degree, you reduce coursework and residency requirements and make it possible to earn two degrees in a shorter amount of time. You’ll expand on a 48-credit HKS study plan by taking four credits in each of the key areas: Economics and Quantitative Analysis; Management and Leadership; and Political Thought and Institutions.
