Course Overview

The graduate certificate in public health and emergency management is designed for students seeking careers with civilian organizations, such as designated nongovernmental organizations, public crisis and emergency management agencies, corporations facing security issues, voluntary organizations focused on crisis response and health care institutions.

Students also will be prepared to work in military agencies' operational, peacemaking and peacekeeping efforts. Students with particular interests, professional responsibilities or career commitments may wish to select elective courses that build expertise in a focused area, such as in emergency management services within a local or state department of health, in global health, in disaster response management or in homeland security and public safety.

The 18-credit graduate certificate can be taken as a stand-alone program. Or, it can be combined with a master's degree to uniquely position graduates for careers that require both breadth and depth of public health knowledge. Our courses are scheduled in the late afternoons and early evenings, allowing students to attain valuable career experience while they earn their degrees.
